Why Are Ashley Jones and Bar Smith Getting Divorced?

Ashley’s decision to file for divorce on August 1 wasn’t entirely unexpected. The couple’s relationship has been rocky, to say the least, and their legal separation is more of a formality at this point. According to Us Weekly, Ashley and Bar actually broke up back in March 2024. The reasons behind their split? Ashley has been upfront about it: Bar’s decisions, particularly those leading to his legal troubles, played a big part.

In the legal documents, Ashley didn’t hold back. “[Bar] is currently in jail awaiting trial for a DV case against myself,” she reportedly wrote. “He is in jail on multiple felony charges. Given that he is already on probation out of California for gun charges and he is [now] in Nevada custody on more serious charges, I fear his decision-making skills are very questionable.”

Bar’s legal issues have undeniably put a strain on their relationship. His latest arrest in July 2024 involved serious charges, including second-degree kidnapping and coercion domestic violence with the threat of or using physical force. While the victim wasn’t initially named, Ashley’s court documents later confirmed that she was the one involved.

The Struggles Leading Up to the Divorce

Ashley and Bar share a daughter, Holly, making their breakup even more complicated. Ashley is seeking sole custody of Holly and has asked the court to deny Bar visitation rights. Given the circumstances, it’s clear that Ashley is prioritizing the safety and well-being of their daughter.

The police incident report, detailed by The Ashley Reality Roundup, sheds more light on the situation. It describes a March 2024 incident where Ashley kicked Bar out of their home, only for him to return and allegedly threaten her with violence. He reportedly took her phone, electronics, and keys away from her in a bid to control the situation.

Ashley has been candid about the emotional toll this has taken on her. “My trust was broken and it’s a strange feeling,” she shared during the season premiere of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “With Bar, I just feel like I deserved unwavering support. This relationship is not worth it and I don’t have the energy.”

Despite everything, it’s clear that Ashley still cares for Bar on some level. “I love Bar and everybody knows that,” she admitted. “It’s very exhausting. I don’t know how everything is going to play out. Sometimes these things don’t play out nicely. At the end of the day, I want to be as amicable as possible.”

What’s Next for Ashley?

As Ashley moves forward, it’s evident that she’s focused on healing and providing a stable environment for Holly. The road ahead won’t be easy, but she’s shown strength and resilience throughout this difficult journey. Whether or not Bar will have a place in her and Holly’s life remains uncertain, but for now, Ashley is taking the necessary steps to protect herself and her daughter.

Divorce is never easy, especially when legal issues and children are involved. But Ashley’s decision reflects a desire to move forward and create a better future for herself and Holly, even if that means leaving Bar behind.
