Colin Jost to Host 'Pop Culture Jeopardy!' — But Is He Saying Goodbye to 'SNL'?

Colin Jost, the beloved head writer and Weekend Update anchor on Saturday Night Live (SNL), has been named the host of the upcoming Amazon Prime Video show, Pop Culture Jeopardy!. This exciting news has left fans wondering how Colin will manage this new role alongside his SNL duties and whether he might be planning to leave the iconic NBC sketch show.

Since joining SNL as a writer in 2005 and becoming a head writer in 2017, Colin has become a staple of the show, winning five Writers Guild of America Awards during his tenure. His wit and comedic timing have made him a fan favorite, especially on the Weekend Update desk.

However, with Colin’s schedule rapidly filling up, concerns about his future at SNL have surfaced. In addition to his new hosting gig, Colin also served as an NBC commentator during the 2024 Olympics in Tahiti. With the upcoming SNL season premiering on September 28, 2024, fans are anxious about whether he can juggle his various commitments.

Despite the speculation, it appears Colin isn’t ready to bid farewell to SNL just yet. Although he hasn’t made any public announcements regarding his departure, the New York Post reported that production for Pop Culture Jeopardy! is set to begin in August 2024. This means Colin will have to master his scheduling skills to manage his new role while continuing his duties at SNL.

“We’re thrilled to welcome the multi-talented Colin Jost as the host of Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” said Lauren Anderson, head of brand and content innovation at Amazon MGM Studios. She praised Colin’s “wry affability and pop culture fluency” as qualities that make him the “perfect host” for the show. Unless Colin has a surprise up his sleeve, like leaving SNL right before its milestone 50th season, it looks like he will be sticking around Studio 8H.

Colin has previously mentioned the possibility of leaving SNL. In his 2020 memoir, A Very Punchable Face, he wrote about mentally preparing to leave the show. “It just felt right as I was writing,” he later explained to The Washington Post. “I think what I wanted to open up about was just that fear of leaving and the fear of letting go of something that has been so important in my life.”

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Colin downplayed his eventual departure, saying, “I don’t have a real timeline, I just meant like I started to potentially psychologically brace for the concept of leaving, which I hadn’t really done.” He added that quarantine made him appreciate his job and the friends he gets to work with at SNL.

On the personal front, Colin is happily married to actress Scarlett Johansson. The couple got engaged in May 2019 after two years of dating and tied the knot in October 2020. They welcomed their first child together, a son named Cosmo, in August 2021.

Colin has also been branching out in his career, starring in the family comedy Tom and Jerry, which debuted in February 2021. He joined Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, and Ken Jeong in the film, showcasing his versatility beyond the SNL stage.

With such a packed schedule and diverse talents, it’s clear that Colin Jost is capable of handling multiple projects. Fans can rest assured that, for now, he won’t be ditching SNL for his new ventures.
