When Lifetime's Dance Moms was rebooted as Dance Moms: A New Era in August 2024, fans of the original series had their eyes peeled for any drama that might follow. The new show, streaming on Hulu, introduces Coach Gloria "Glo" Hampton as the fresh face in charge of the dance studio, taking over from Abby Lee Miller, who was previously at the helm.

While Glo and Abby were once considered "good friends," according to Glo, the transition has been anything but smooth. The new coach has made it clear from the start that she aims to distance herself from Abby's style. On the show, Glo boldly declared, "I know I can make these kids stars, and I can do it without them resenting me in 10 years." This statement seemed to signal a new direction for the series, one that's markedly different from Abby's often controversial approach.
Despite Glo's assertions of friendship, the reality behind the scenes tells a different story. Glo revealed that her relationship with Abby has soured since she took on the role of leading the reboot. Although Glo tried to involve Abby in some capacity, hoping for a cameo or even just some advice, Abby's response was notably absent. According to Glo, Abby has ceased all communication, leaving her puzzled and disappointed.
"I’m not sure she wanted to give me advice," Glo told Page Six prior to the show's premiere. "She’s not speaking to me at the moment.” The exact cause of the fallout remains unclear, as Glo claimed she reached out to Abby hoping to meet up when they were both in Florida, only to be met with silence.
This estrangement is particularly notable given that Abby Lee Miller had previously congratulated Glo on landing the starring role in the new show. Glo had hoped that Abby would embrace the change and offer support, but it appears that was not the case. Abby has not publicly addressed the tension, and notably, she did not support or promote the reboot upon its debut.

For now, Glo is focusing on her new role and the future of Dance Moms: A New Era. Despite the drama with Abby, Glo remains hopeful that their friendship can be repaired, though she’s not holding her breath. “We’ve been good friends,” Glo reflected. “I’ve been there for her through her illness and vacations and lots of things. So it makes me sad. But, you know, hopefully, she’ll come around.”
