Doug Marcaida from Forged In Fire – What’s He Doing Now?

Doug Marcaida has become a well-known figure due to his role as a judge on Forged in Fire, where his expertise in edged weapons and martial arts brings a unique perspective to the show. A master of the Filipino martial art Kali, Marcaida is celebrated not just for his combat skills but for his emphasis on using weapons as tools of protection rather than harm.

In recent years, Marcaida has been busier than ever. He continues to appear on Forged in Fire, where he tests and evaluates blades crafted by the contestants. His involvement goes beyond simply judging; he offers insights and feedback that highlight his extensive knowledge of weapon design and combat effectiveness. Marcaida’s path to the show started with his online presence, particularly through his YouTube channel, where his demonstrations of weapon use attracted the attention of casting producers. Today, Forged in Fire remains a popular series, partly due to his engaging presence and sharp evaluations.

Outside of the show, Marcaida manages several businesses. He runs three martial arts academies—two in New York and one in Romania—where he teaches his style of Kali, which he developed based on the principle of defense rather than aggression. He’s also heavily involved in weapon design, collaborating with top brands like Kbar Knives, Fox Knives, and Bastinelli Creations. His designs have been featured in films like 300 and The Bourne Series, cementing his reputation in the world of edged weapons.

However, Marcaida’s journey hasn’t been without setbacks. In 2017, he sustained a serious shoulder injury while filming Forged in Fire. The injury, caused by testing a dull heavy blade, required surgery and forced him to take time off from the show. During his recovery, his brother RJ and other colleagues stepped in to conduct tests. Thankfully, Marcaida made a full recovery and returned to his duties on the show.

Even as he juggles filming, running his academies, and designing weapons, Marcaida remains committed to sharing his knowledge. He conducts seminars and training sessions worldwide, teaching self-defense techniques rooted in traditional martial arts but adapted for modern contexts. Despite his busy schedule, his focus on personal growth and community remains evident in everything he does.

As of now, Doug Marcaida continues to balance his television career with his passion for martial arts and weapon design, remaining a respected figure in his field. Whether on screen or in his training sessions, Marcaida’s dedication to his craft and his warm, humble approach continue to resonate with fans and students alike.
