A Magical Collaboration

MinaLima, founded by graphic designers Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima, originally gained fame for their work on the Harry Potter films. Their contributions—like the Marauder’s Map and the Daily Prophet—helped shape the visual identity of the Wizarding World. This success naturally led to an expansion into the world of book design, where they began reimagining the Harry Potter series in beautifully illustrated editions.

Each MinaLima edition was a feast for the eyes, featuring full-color illustrations, intricate interactive elements, and meticulously crafted layouts. From Diagon Alley’s bustling streets to Hogwarts Castle’s grand architecture, the design duo’s artwork brought new life to the magical world. Interactive features, including fold-out maps, pop-up illustrations, and hidden flaps, allowed readers to engage with the story in an immersive way.

The Discontinued Partnership Despite the enthusiasm surrounding their work, MinaLima's partnership with the publisher has come to an end. In a recent statement, the design team shared the news with their followers: “We wanted to let our readers know that Studio MinaLima has not been commissioned to illustrate the fourth Harry Potter book and will not be continuing our participation in the series. It was a privilege to reimagine J.K. Rowling’s first three Harry Potter books in the style of our illustrated fairytales, and reach the hearts of Potter fans worldwide.”

The statement, posted on Instagram, did not delve into the specifics of why the collaboration ended. MinaLima expressed their desire to continue their work with Scholastic, emphasizing that the end of the partnership was not their preferred outcome. “We have always been open about being commissioned by Scholastic to illustrate one book at a time. This was not our desired outcome,” the duo noted.

What’s Next for the Series?

Fans were eagerly anticipating the release of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in MinaLima’s distinctive style. The news of the discontinuation has left many disheartened, with some expressing their disappointment at the thought of an incomplete series. “Noooooo!!!! An incomplete series is a tragedy,” one fan lamented. Another added, “This is sad news, they’re some of the best versions of the Harry Potter books.”

At this time, Scholastic has yet to comment on the situation, leaving fans wondering about the future of the remaining books in the series. The end of MinaLima’s involvement marks a significant shift in how the Harry Potter series will be presented moving forward.

A Farewell to an Enchanted Experience

While the discontinuation of MinaLima’s illustrated Harry Potter books is a blow to fans, their work remains a testament to the magical world J.K. Rowling created. The trio of books they did complete will continue to enchant readers with their breathtaking visuals and interactive elements. For those who experienced these editions, the magical touch of MinaLima will always be a cherished part of their Harry Potter journey.

As we bid farewell to this chapter, we look forward to seeing how the Harry Potter series evolves in the future. The legacy of MinaLima’s contributions will undoubtedly remain a beloved part of the Wizarding World.
