Exploring Richard Rawlings' SEMA Showcase: The 1968 C10 "Texas Skidmark" and the Ferrari "Testa"

In the world of custom automotive builds, few names shine as brightly as Richard Rawlings. As the man behind Gas Monkey Garage, Rawlings has made a name for himself by creating automotive masterpieces that never fail to turn heads. During SEMA 2023, we had the privilege of getting up close and personal with Rawlings and his latest pride and joy, the 1968 C10, now affectionately known as the "Texas Skidmark."

Richard Rawlings and Josh Paris, a key builder from Gas Monkey Garage, took us through the thrilling journey of this stunning SEMA build. It's a story filled with passion, creativity, and a relentless pursuit of perfection.

The "Texas Skidmark" is a testament to what Gas Monkey Garage is all about—bold, brilliant, and boundary-pushing. What's even more astonishing is that this awe-inspiring creation was conceived just 45 days before it graced the SEMA floor.

Under the hood of this beast lies a brand-new L8 High-Performance Chevrolet engine. With an LME intake system, it churns out a staggering 700 horsepower, making it a true powerhouse on wheels. But the true magic lies in the details. The front of the "Texas Skidmark" boasts a CNC-machined billet grill, a work of art that required an astonishing 72 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. This attention to detail, where no corner is left untouched, is what sets this build apart from the rest.

The truck itself has undergone a remarkable transformation. When Rawlings first encountered it, it was a far cry from the beauty it is today. The cab and some components are the only remnants of its original form as a Stepside. Thanks to the expertise of the Gas Monkey team and their partners, Scog and Dickies, the truck has been reborn as a Fleet side model, looking nothing short of pristine.

Quality components are the name of the game here, with Curry rear ends, TCI chassis, Chevrolet Performance parts, and Wilwood brakes among the highlights. But what truly sets this build apart is the eye-catching paint scheme. The vibrant colors draw inspiration from Rawlings' venture into the world of hot sauces, creating a seamless fusion between his various passions.

Perhaps the most intriguing question of all is whether the "Texas Skidmark" is up for grabs. The answer is a resounding yes. For those who appreciate one-of-a-kind automotive creations, this stunning truck is available for purchase, making it a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Inside the "Texas Skidmark," every detail is meticulously attended to. The steering wheel, the interior design, and every element showcase the level of craftsmanship that Gas Monkey Garage is known for. The team's commitment to excellence is evident in every corner of this masterpiece.

As we delved deeper into Rawlings' automotive world, he couldn't resist giving us a preview of "Testa." This isn't just any car; it's a 1989 Ferrari Testarossa that underwent a full EV conversion. Gas Monkey Garage took this iconic sports car and electrified it, transforming it into a high-performance electric vehicle.

The "Testa" showcases Gas Monkey's commitment to innovation and their versatility in tackling projects of all kinds. This electrifying transformation promises to be a head-turner, capturing the essence of the original Testarossa while embracing the future of automotive technology.

In the end, Richard Rawlings and his team at Gas Monkey Garage continue to redefine the boundaries of automotive customization. The "Texas Skidmark" and "Testa" are prime examples of their unwavering dedication to craftsmanship and innovation.

As we eagerly anticipate the release of "Testa," the "Texas Skidmark" serves as a reminder of the extraordinary talent and passion that drive Gas Monkey Garage. Rawlings and his team never cease to amaze us with their boundless creativity, and we can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.
