Addie Carver was crowned Miss Teen USA on Thursday, August 1, filling a void that had lingered since UmaSofia Srivastava and Miss USA Noelia Voigt both stepped down earlier this year. Their unprecedented resignations sparked widespread speculation and scrutiny of the organization.
Noelia Voigt initially cited mental health reasons for her departure. However, when UmaSofia Srivastava resigned just days later, it became clear that there were deeper issues at play within the Miss Teen USA organization. This marked the first time in the pageant’s history that the title of Miss Teen USA remained unfilled for such an extended period.
Despite the title being offered to first runner-up Stephanie Skinner, she declined the opportunity, leaving the position vacant until Addie Carver’s recent win.
In her statement on Instagram, UmaSofia explained her decision: "After months of grappling with this decision, I have made the choice to resign from the title of Miss Teen USA 2023. After careful consideration, I've decided to resign as I find that my personal values no longer fully align with the direction of the organization."

While UmaSofia did not provide further details at the time, CNN later obtained Noelia Voigt's resignation letter, which revealed a series of troubling allegations against the organization. Voigt's letter cited delays in receiving prizes, a toxic work environment characterized by poor management, and even instances of bullying and harassment. She also alleged that she had been sexually harassed during a public appearance due to the organization’s failure to provide adequate protection.
With Addie Carver now wearing the crown, there is hope that the Miss Teen USA organization has addressed these issues. Carver, a dedicated dance teacher and cheerleader, steps into this role with high expectations and the support of many who hope she will not have to face the same challenges as her predecessors.
The Miss Teen USA organization remains under scrutiny, but Addie Carver's win marks a new chapter. As she begins her reign, many are optimistic that the necessary changes have been made to ensure a positive and supportive environment for all future contestants.
