The Reason Behind the Bald Look

On the August 2024 premiere of The Braxtons, Towanda and her sister Trina Braxton sat down for an emotional conversation about Towanda’s decision to go bald. While many assumed Towanda shaved her head as a tribute to her late sister, Traci Braxton, who passed away from esophageal cancer in March 2022, there was more to the story.

Towanda revealed that her decision was also influenced by a personal battle with alopecia, a condition characterized by hair loss. Despite initially stating that her bald look was a show of solidarity with Traci, Towanda admitted in a confessional that she had been dealing with alopecia and had kept her diagnosis private. “I hadn't exactly told the world that I have alopecia,” Towanda shared. “A lot of people assume a lot of different things. I took pride in how I looked and, I have to be honest, I didn't think about my body. It was what was going on on the inside.”

The Influence of Traci Braxton

In a poignant moment on the show, Towanda reflected on how Traci's encouragement played a crucial role in her decision to embrace a bald look. Traci had been supportive throughout Towanda's struggle, even massaging her scalp and showing Towanda the bald patches caused by the condition. “I am who I am, you accept me, or you just don't accept me,” Towanda told her sister, underscoring her acceptance and resilience despite the challenges of alopecia.

A New Chapter on The Braxtons

Towanda’s candid revelation marks a significant moment on The Braxtons, reflecting her journey of self-acceptance and bravery. By sharing her experiences with alopecia, she joins a growing number of celebrities who are using their platforms to raise awareness about the condition and encourage others facing similar struggles.

Tune in to The Braxtons on Fridays at 9:30 p.m. EST on WeTV to catch more of Towanda's story and the latest updates from the Braxton family.
